Makazoo is a book exchange website for students in Toronto. It was built in 2009 by two students who want to make it easier for others to buy and sell textbooks.

What is the advantage of selling my book online vs using my university book store?

Often times books stores offer students very little money to buy out text books - as low as 40% of the value of the new book. The used books are then resold for up to 80% of the value as used books. This is a lose-lose situation for both the student who sells the book and the one who buys the book.

By using a free text book exchange service like makazoo, you can deal directly with another student and save money. Also an added advantage is that students who are selling books sometimes include free extras like course workbooks and copies of past exams.

Makazoo allows you to post free book ads on the site. Other students who are looking for books browse the site and they can send you a message through the site. You receive the message by email and can reply to arrange a time and place when you can sell the book.

WARNING: We strongly encourage you to meet the buyer of the book in person on school campus. Do not accept offers to receive the money online and send the book by mail.
